Each and everyone an earthquake disaster waiting to happen?
The earthquakes accomplished in a few months what neglect and decline has taken years to do. But it strikes me that similar questions are raised by both, with regard to the purpose we are here for and the buildings we need to assist us in our core- in fact our only- business
Perhaps if the Church were to focus on the core business which actually has nothing to do with buildings then the place of the buildings would sort itself out. For example the Church talks of compassion - and appears entirely oblivious to the fact that NZ aid is dropping at an alarming rate. We talk of helping the poor and the unemployed yet put the real time and effort into property discussions. The current real question is what is the Church (ie us) doing for the current problems of the world community. If the andwer is nothing of significance - why are we needed? If we are not needed - why worry about our buildings?
Can I suggest the book "The Gifts of the Small Church" by Jason Byassee - Amazon Kindle about NZ$13 - it reminds us of the need for being known and the need for community.
